If your middle name is party, then Boracay, the island of 24/7 fun is definitely for you!
The 5km long White Beach, voted one of the top 25 beaches in the world in Tripadvisor’s 2015 Traveller’s Choice Awards, has helped put Boracay on the map. While the powder white sand and crystal blue waters are a draw, it’s the fun, party spirit of Boracay that keeps people coming back for more.
Fire dancers, bar-hopping until the sun shines the next day, live music-it’s all in Boracay, making it the perfect destination for hen parties or a getaway trip with best mates. Whether you prefer cocktails on the beach or a nice cold beer, there are plenty of bars to help you have fun into the small hours of the morning.
If you can tear yourself away from the party scene, there’s no shortage of activities to do during the day–all the water sports known to man are available on this island paradise!
Boracay has around 25 dive sites that cater to all levels of experience, most especially all that clear water is perfect for snorkelling. If you prefer to be above water, try parasailing or take a parawa native outrigger boat–for a tour of the island. Did we mention there’s also water-skiing, cliff diving, windsurfing and skimboarding – the list is endless!
The beach also offers a wide variety of fun for holidaymakers. If you get bored making sandcastles, you can take part in beach sports such as beach volleyball, football, frisbee or touch rugby to name a few. There really is no excuse to be bored on these beaches.
If you’ve over-indulged in too many cocktails or need a break from being active, grab a massage on the beach, or if you’re feeling in need of a little luxury, pay a visit to the Shangri-la Resort and Spa, one of the top resorts in Asia. The sea-view from their infinity pool is what holiday memories are made of.
Boracay also has plenty to offer those who prefer the quieter life. Puka beach, recently voted one of the 20 most beautiful beaches in the world by Conde Nast Traveller, is super laid-back, while adrenaline junkies should head to Bulabog Beach. Thanks to the large waves and strong winds itsn considered to be Asia’s top kitesurfing destination, and also offers windsurfing and skimboarding–like surfing but on smaller, fin-less boards.
It’s also a great destination for families thanks to the wide variety of fun on offer. Enjoy horseback riding on the beach, tuck into fresh coconuts, ride banana boats or unleash your inner Ariel and enrol in the Philippine Mermaid Swimming Academy!
Whichever side of the island you choose, there’s accommodation to suit every taste and every pocket. For honeymooners or those having a destination beach wedding, the Shangri-la (from approximately £300 per night) or Astoria Boracay (from £200 per night) are perfect. If you’re on your gap year or travelling on a budget, try Sulu Sea Boutique Hotel (about £26 a night) or Boracay Backpackers, where shared rooms start from just £13 a night.
And because Boracay is popular among European traveller destination, you’ll find a wide variety of food choices. Chinese, Indian, Mexican, French, Italian–the list is endless–however fresh seafood is an absolute given!
